Being the oldest or largest democracy doesn’t guarantee its quality or success. Democracies like the U.S. and India are now ranked as “flawed democracies” due to rising inequality, political polarization, and weakened institutions.

Witnessing the oldest and largest democracies in the world wrestling with oligarchies, I couldn't help but wonder what went so wrong with democracy as we know it or do not know it precisely. But democracy or not our lives are impacted negatively when governments are not answerable to their people.
